Crotalaria juncea A tropical legume that provides tremendous amounts of biomass (up to 5000 pounds per acre) as well as fixing nitrogen in the soil. Sunn Hemp is a fast-growing crop that thrives in heat, low fertility, sandy soil and will not harbor nematodes. It is drought tolerant and has superior nitrogen fixing ability. We recommend mowing the crop at first flower to avoid development of fibrous stalks. The name hemp is an antiquated reference to any plant that may be used for its fiber; this plant is unrelated to Cannabis. Recommended seeding rate: 15–20 pounds per acre.
